With the 40th pick of the NBA Draft, the Bobcats selected Derrick Brown, a 6-8 small forward/power forward from Xavier. A good athlete with great strength, Brown benched 185 20 times at the pre-draft combine, good for third best performance this year (among those he bested - DeJuan Blair who put up 18 reps). Brown is also an efficient scorer, shooting better than 40% on threes, 50% from the floor overall, and a decent 74% at the stripe.
Again, with the aid of advanced computer imagery techniques, here is a mock-up of what Derrick Brown may look in Bobcat colors:
And here is a Derrick Brown highlight reel/Xavier promotional video to see him in action:
Before anyone asks, that is Derrick's head (and number) on Emeka's body. I just wanted to continue the bad photoshop work from the Gerald Henderson post.

I'm a Bulls fan and watching that highlight reel makes it extremely obvious that he loathes driving or dunking to his right. Also, it eerily reminded me of a ton of Tyrus Thomas highlight reels. Except without the blocked shots. Hopefully Derrick doesn't turn out to be as frustratingly inconsistent as Tyrus is for Chicago tho.
Reggie, I appreciate the offer, but the photo is a joke, a bad photoshop job done on purpose.

is this a joke? I mean seriously. 185lbs is a 45 lbs 25 lbs plates on each side (bar is 45lbs). That's nothing. These guys weigh 220lbs . Thats like doing only 20 pushups. I laughed at this
Michael, really? When you have freakishly long arms like most NBA players, the bench press becomes a bit more difficult. Besides that, its not like we are talking about linemen in the NFL. The main point is that relative to his peers, Brown is in solid shape as far as the weight room goes.

What song is used in this video?

I have to agree with Michael-I am 6' 4" with long arms and doing 185 20 times is not impressive. If Blair can only do it 18 times he must hardly work out. I work out twice a week, weigh 205, and can bench 225 18 times.

And I should add I'm not impressed with myself either.

If anybody has been checking out Dave Thorpe's Orlando Summer League tweets, he's been saying some pretty good stuff about DB (more along the lines of potential, before we get too excited).
This debate over the bench press thing is silly IMO. Bench press is not even a good indicator of any kind of strength except how much you can bench. College and even NBA players don't have time to train extensively on bench press b/c they work on basketball skills and strength/conditioning in other areas. So yeah, it's not that hard for a weekend warrior that is a decent size to get up a lot of reps at 185 if you do bench all the time. But that obviously doesn't measure your potential as an NBA player. It's kinda silly that they continue to use bench at the combine, even as a point of comparison between different players.
