Quick follow up to yesterday's post: I wound up selecting Joe Alexander, as Bayless went at 7 to the Clippers and the Bucks snatched Randolph at 8 (again, see full details at Ridiculous Upside – you can even read where I got defensive of the pick in the comments). Why Joe? Well, I only saw games this past season when he played well, so that probably influenced me a bit. The main thing that really made my mind up was all the glowing things I had been reading about him lately: His work ethic, his improvement over the few years, and his ridiculous athleticism. And he might even be tall enough to play some 4. Intriguing? It was to me anyway, so let that serve as the intro to this prospect profile.
Joe Alexander – 6'-8″ SF/PF – West Virginia Univ – Jr.
Quick notes: Has a standing reach of 8'-10″, identical to Kevin Love, despite being an inch shorter. Also possesses a 38″ vertical. Very nice.
Draft Watch – Hot or Not – Joe was hot, as “His toughness and shooting ability have made quite an impression.”
ESPN Draft Tracker Card (Insider) – “Long, super athletic forward who can score inside and outside.”
ESPN Stats Page for Joe – Nice improvement on his free throw % from sophomore to junior year, but the opposite on threes. Obviously, not a finished product.
And the KenPom stats – The best rebounder on his team…but that is not something to be too proud of. Strong (or smart?) with the ball, though.
DraftExpress Player Profile – “(W)e need to keep in mind that hes only been playing organized basketball for about five years now” – that is incredible. Also incredible? The picture on the page showing him headbutting the rim.
NBADraft.net Player Profile – “Needs to improve his consistency on a game to game basis. Seven single digit games is too many for a junior with his talent”.
Anthony Randolph – 6'11″ PF, LSU
