Love drops 40; Bobcats quit down the stretch?

Minnesota Timberwolves 88 Final
Recap | Box Score
83 Charlotte Bobcats
Corey Maggette, SF 34 MIN | 7-15 FG | 7-7 FT | 4 REB | 3 AST | 22 PTS | -9

The ‘drive to the basket out of control and draw a foul’ act seems to be wearing on the officials. Maggette not getting as many whistles as of late, which isn’t good, because he’s not a good outside shooter.

D.J. White, PF 32 MIN | 7-12 FG | 0-0 FT | 5 REB | 2 AST | 14 PTS | -5

A very nice outing for White. He’s proved that he can shoot the 15-20 ft. mid-range jumper. The next step is to learn how to become a better rebounder.

Bismack Biyombo, C 21 MIN | 3-4 FG | 0-2 FT | 4 REB | 0 AST | 6 PTS | -11

Started the game with some life on the offensive end, but didn’t play much in the second half and clearly couldn’t hang with Love when he was matched up on him defensively.

Gerald Henderson, G 41 MIN | 5-14 FG | 5-6 FT | 6 REB | 2 AST | 15 PTS | +3

Struggled from the field all night, but in the second half when he was needed the most Hendo went 2-6, for 4 points and had 3 turnovers. On a positive note, he is looking to attack the rim off the catch much more often. Video post coming tomorrow on his recent progression on the offensive end.

D.J. Augustin, PG 24 MIN | 0-4 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 8 AST | 0 PTS | -8

If he really has knee tendinitis right now, then he just needs to sit out. In Augustin’s past 6 games he is 11-39 (28.2%). Have to wonder if his stint as the starting PG in Charlotte will come to an end soon. I’ve thought all along that some team will overpay for him in the off-season, but if he keeps this up he’ll be lucky to get an offer.

Eduardo Najera, PF 19 MIN | 1-3 FG | 0-0 FT | 8 REB | 0 AST | 2 PTS | +7

Had the highest +/- of any Bobcat tonight at +7. Najera is always one of the best in the hustle category and did a decent job guarding Love tonight, but he’s simply no threat on the offensive end.

Kemba Walker, PG 24 MIN | 6-13 FG | 6-7 FT | 3 REB | 4 AST | 20 PTS | +3

Decision making is still very skeptical much of the time, but he’s got a motor like nobody else on this team and is very good at pushing the ball up the floor, generating easy baskets.

Byron Mullens, C 12 MIN | 0-3 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 2 AST | 0 PTS | -2

When Byron was in the game he looked intimidated of Kevin Love and also got abused by him offensively.

Two Things We Saw

  1. SECOND CHANCE POINTS: Timberwolves- 23 Bobcats-6. 13 offensive rebounds by Minnesota really hurt Charlotte when they were trying to get stops and climb back into this game.
  2. GIVING IN: Following a Corey Maggette 3-point play with 15 sec to play, after the lead had been cut to 5 the Bobcats elected not to foul and simply let the T-Wolves dribble the clock out. No sign of life from the players, no signal from the coaches, just a flat out quitting act from both parties. Pitiful, and if you ask me, it’s hard for management to say ‘it’s not coaching’ much longer when something like this goes on.
