Hornets dominate second half in blowout of Bobcats

After leading by 11 at the break, the second half proved to be too much for the Bobcats as they were outscored 28-8 in the 3rd quarter- that quarter set in stone their fate as New Orleans blew it open in the second half to win 97-82.

Although the final score was ugly, there were some bright spots for Charlotte in the first half. The Bobcats shot 57.5% (23-40) from the field and 57.1% (8-14) from behind the arc in the first half- Byron Mullens was 4-6 from deep in the first half, but on a contrasting discouraging note, he didn’t attempt anything but a three pointer before half. Mullens ended the game with 14 points and 6 rebounds.

The second half, and 3rd quarter in particular, was a much different story for Charlotte. The Bobcats were 21.1% (4-19) from the field, 0-7 from behind the arc and committed 8 turnovers in the 3rd. As the Bobcats crumbled, first overall pick Anthony Davis took over the game- Davis had 15 points and 5 rebounds in the 3rd. At the end of the quarter the Hornets had built a nine point lead and didn’t look back from there.

The game was essentially lost in three different categories last night- Bobcats accumulated 20 turnovers, which led to 27 Hornets points, but New Orleans only turned it over 9 times, leading to just 10 Charlotte points. The Bobcats also only attempted 15 free throws last night, while the Hornets got to the foul line 26 times. On the glass, Charlotte was only out-rebounded by 1, but the Hornets pulled down 12 offensive rebounds and turned them into 21 second chance points. The Bobcats only had 2 second chance points for the entire game.

Ben Gordon led Charlotte with 15 points on 7-15 shooting and rookie Michael Kidd-Gilchrist scored 10 points to go along with 4 assist and 3 rebounds.

The Bobcats next pre-seas0n game will be tomorrow night in Charleston, SC at 7:30 pm against New Orleans. Yes, they play back-to-back games against the Hornets.

how did biz and haywood? cuz the hornets Bigs total for i think 40 of there points, well lopez and Davis did…which is WAY too much, just wondering

means to say how did Biz and Haywood look when playing, also was the the starting lineup the same as against the wizards? plz and thank you for the report

  • Spencer

Haywood did not play and that’s a trend that’ll probably continue every other game during pre-season for him because of age.

yea i found that out a little later, for some reason i couldn’t get on a TON of websites to find out the stats for the game other then being able to see a few reports of Davis and Lopez owning in the 1st qrt and 2nd half

how do you think Biz did? and is there any other updates on Mullens injury? thanks for the reply

  • Spencer

Biz looked better than he did in game 1, apparently, but I think he’s been a little ‘meh’ so far in pre-season.

Mullens injury isn’t thought to be serious by the team- tests on his knee came back negative. No timetable to if he’ll return this pre-season or not.

okay thanks, also is Mullens going to be used as our designated 3 pt shooter?..:( feels like we are just going to use him to spread the floor and have MKG, Kemba, Henderson and everyone else with ball handling skills attacking the basket constantly, i don’t mind it but Mullens isn’t that effective at the 3 to constantly be wasting his 7 ft frame to ust shoot 3pointers all day:(

just wondering, thanks for the replies, haven’t been able to watch the games due to school:( otherwise i would be trying harder to research this myself
