A loss to end the preseason

Dallas Mavericks 99 Final
Recap | Box Score
82 Charlotte Bobcats
Bismack Biyombo, PF 29 min, 8 pts, 7 reb, 1 ast, 1 stl, 0 blk, 3-5 FG, 0-0 3FG, 2-3 FT

Nice work from Bismack – nothing spectacular, but solid.

Byron Mullens, C 36 min, 16 pts, 19 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl, 1 blk, 8-25 FG, 0-4 3FG, 0-0 FT

I thought it was a typo, or a data error – but, nope, Byron Mullens, Mr. 7 Feet of Smooth, had 19 rebounds. He also had 17 missed field goal attempts. But, hey, 19 rebounds!

Ramon Sessions, PG 25 min, 16 pts, 1 reb, 4 ast, 2 stl, 0 blk, 3-8 FG, 2-2 3FG, 8-8 FT

The Bobcats are going to be dealing with a PG controversy throughout the season, if Ramon continues to play as well as he has in the preseason.

Kemba Walker, PG 31 min, 6 pts, 4 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl, 0 blk, 3-17 FG, 0-3 3FG, 0-0 FT

Unlike Byron, Kemba did not have an amazing performance in some other category to offset his 14 misses (to 3 makes).

Gerald Henderson, SG 36 min, 17 pts, 7 reb, 3 ast, 3 stl, 1 blk, 8-20 FG, 1-2 3FG, 0-0 FT

Not good enough from the starting SG – 17 points on 20 attempts. The 7 rebounds are nice (but there were a lot to go around on a night with both teams missing).

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, SF 26 min, 7 pts, 10 reb, 1 ast, 2 stl, 0 blk, 0-5 FG, 0-0 3FG, 7-8 FT

Nice offensive aggressiveness and rebounding – not often you see 7 points with no made field goals.

Ben Gordon, SG 16 min, 6 pts, 0 reb, 1 ast, 0 stl, 0 blk, 2-5 FG, 2-2 3FG, 0-0 FT

Shoot more, Ben. 5 attempts in 16 minutes is not enough for you, on this team.

One Thing We Saw

  1. The preseason is over. That is all. Let’s play some real games.

can’t wait for Friday, Pacers i think we lose to unless Mullens and Biz/Hay go off, they are just to good in the paint-still our weakest link by a long shot

Kemba SHOULD start, Biz SHOULD START, problem is it feels more and more like Haywood is going to start-an upgrade over BIZ but worse for the franchise future, and Sessions is the same thing, he is an upgrade over Kemba as a point guard, but he won’t help this franchise get better in the long run

two 6th men? is it possible? well Gordon and Sessions may fight to be called the 6th man, we have two of them thats for sure…

plus why is mullens called a center still? he is usually the pf when on the court unless we play small and have mkg be the pf…

Mullens should have a breakout year^^, i wonder if we could have enticed the rockets to give us Aldrich…:( we are 1 for 1 with ex okc big men, should try and make it 2 for 2 ^^,

I was blown away they included aldrich in the deal. speaks highly of their faith in thabeet or the free agent market. they were planning on aldrich supplanting collison as 1st big off the bench. he looked good over the summer and pre season at times. had to in order to take back martin’s salary though. i would have rode it out at least this year but probably 2. could have always dumped harden on another team later. they really caved on the whole “this was going to be a looming issue thing”. i think it could have beena motivating factor a “now or never” type thing for that group. chemistry is so underrated in this league but it means so much. turkoglu deal pt. 2. watch them try to reacquire harden in 2 years after a disaster in houston and elsewhere.

mullens really needs to be taking 25 shots every night. kevin durant approach with the guy. sign him NOW to save some money and give him every shot he wants and run the entire offense through him. he’ll shoot 40% this year but watch that increase over the next 2 years as he gains confidence and comfort being the go-to guy. you know he can shoot and can’t be blocked….why not exploit the H out of that? get dirk’s coach on the staffimmediately.

lol^^, yea, idk who has a more Dirkesc style of play and who will be more like him, Bargani of the Raptors or Mullens, personally i see Mullens as a far better athlete, could stand to lose some of his baby fat-listed at 275…god damn he doesn’t look like it, get some muscle tone man…^^, Mullens we could have hit the jackpot he looks so much better so far, he’s more aggressive on the boards and has been ten times better defensivly-although he still looks lost sometimes, he won’t be a great or even good rebounder but a good 6-8rpg would suffice, considering he won’t get too many offensive opportunities to rebound

chemistry- it is underrated but for a good reason, when you see Boston and the Heat make it to the finals both years based purly on talent and not knowing how to play with each other it makes people see it as un needed, but having good chemistry helps so much, last year with more playing time together the Heat looked amazing, and that is despite having a shortened season, Bulls-they looked great despite losing rose and won a ton of games based off of good defense and knowing how to play together…

also Charlottean, u might be slowly bringing me on over to the Curry band wagon^^

You should expect a pro to be a smart player, I don’t think that is too much to ask, shot selection, chemistry, could be the focus is on defense and that is good but I hope we see some pick and rolls and some creative passing too.

    • Titletown99030507dPlease TD, That was the bobcats. They have a fercoious front court. Right. Splitter finishes with a better FG % than Blair does at the end of the season. Period. Did it ever occur to you he screens better than Blair and allows others to get their shots off way better than Blair would. On offense and defense I prefer Splitter over Blair anyday. That’s not even close. Where was he most of the game in Chicago when eveybody else was playing the important parts of the game? Why is sitting for so long after the first sub. Even Bonner is taking his minutes.

  • bhfromme

Hey how much run will t thomas get this year?

  • 4aseer

Granger out… too bad so sad

  • charlottean

i think mullens can do better than 6-8 boards a game. depends on minutes, but he should no doubt be 8+. He’s too long for 4′s and too quick for 5′s. it’ll come to effort. when a guy has games of 14 and 19 rebounds…..you know what he’s capable of. it’s like when rondo had a huge game several years ago….you could see his ceiling and think “if he can ever make that every night” and last year he did. mullens just has to be programmed to shoot and rebound.

as for chemistry….there’s a certain chemistry that both those 2 teams had though. it wasn’t as thrown together as you might think. in boston’s case, those 3 guys had a common goal and doc rivers brought that group together. it wasn’t like laker team with payton and malone and shaq and kobe…..it was a legit team. and they played their roles. chemistry doesn’t necessarily have to be time bought but it’s about sticking with what works and having defined roles.

the miami 3 played together for team usa for years, were drafted the same year, there was chemistry there as well. hell they got together and schemed on how they could all opt out the same year to make that happen. pure talent is always the 90% but that other 10% of intangibles is underrated. it’s why the knicks and nets won’t win. clippers either more than likely.

curry bandwagon needs more company. deadline is tomorrow on that extension. he doesn’t get it…….you wait until he gets hurt or walker has a monster game and give them a godfather offer. let dr. anderson fix that ankle and keep him close.

^^, what i want to know is what the suns are doing down in phoenix, they extend everyones career when you go down their, Shaq said they helped him play for 2 more year, Nash he looks like he will never retire, Grant Hill finally got his career rolling again, just took him 10 years of injuries and finally landing in Phoenix to get him fixed…

they has a good regiment, more teams need to copy them

but yea curry, dude is more of a sg if you look at the stats, but he can play point easily, he’s good at driving, very good passer, than he can just shoot hall of fame like numbers…, Steve nash like numbers but at a high quantity but with the same quality…either way if Kemba doesn’t get his shooting% up i start to have serious doubts about him…Curry can score the same with half the shots…

Kemba can do one thing Curry can’t do, and that is get triple doubles with rebound, Kemba hustles like crazy, i mean he only started his career with a triple double in his first start? or was it is second start?

  • 4aseer

Kemba is a triple double kinda player if he plays smart, plus he seems pretty healthy. I think I would go big most of the game against the pacers, i think mullens/biz/haywood should give them all they can handle in the paint especially if mullens could do some of that paul gasol type low post passing.

  • charlottean

well they paid curry so that biedrins/jefferson for diop/carroll and a first or gordon and a first looks like a move we need to start working on.

curry had a triple double his rookie year as well. 5 double digit rebounding games thus far. grant hill was a triple double threat. lebron is. jason kidd was. olajuwon was. kemba had 1 triple double and 1 double double. he’s not even a legit double double threat yet.

i cannot for the life of me understand how demar derozan got 10 million a year for 4 years. that makes tyrus thomas’ contract look reasonable. and gibson got less. incredible. toronto was close to turning the corner before that. i wouldn’t have traded henderson for derozan straight up and they gave him 10 a year. this pretty much sucks for hendo’s value. dude is going to technically be worth around 9 per the market and he’s really worth about 6.5. the way gms are cutting checks right now, mullens might be fetching max money after he goes 17 and 8 this year. (aka the brook lopez special)

max contracts were supposed to be for kobe, lebron, dirk, deron williams, dwight howard, chris paul types. are 1.5 demar derozan’s worth a kobe? are 2? no effing way. these guys need new jobs that don’t involve money. they clearly don’t comprehend valuation. i wouldn’t give up a 1st round pick for derozan.

  • Spencer/SDS

^^, yea Derozan was way over paid, hopefully we can re-sign mullens and hendo quickly before they start thinkiing max money, do not let them get into the free agency pool or it will make it harder on ourselves,

Harden was huge, 5 yr 80 mill, that’s almost 30 mill more than the Thunder were offering, and Harden was pretty close to actually taking that deal, 5 more mill and it was said he would become a thunder for another 5 years…he got money like no other, plus he just tied Kobe’s all time high for assists in one game lmao, his first start equals the same of one of the “best” players in hitory, im sorry but kobe is soo over rated, he is like a Jordan with a third of the talent and even more chucking the ball up like no other

Ehh Grant Hill, u gotta feel for that, he looked like the next Larry Bird type player, than a couple bad leg injuries and a row and boom, he goes from future hall of famer to a guy that people say “what if” about…,

also i might give up a late lottery to just mid round for Derozan-if we didn’t have hendo that is

  • 4aseer

I mean some players make a pass and the dude just happens to get lucky with the basket, but when bird made an assist you had to try hard to miss it, like there is such a thing as a ‘quality assist’ over just say a blind pass. If a dood can make a slew ‘quality assist’ then he is mentioned with names like kobe and harden.

  • 4aseer

I think I will retain the idea that this squad can win it all, it would be my goal, if I were them, you can’t believe the hype that you are gonna finish last and then resign the whole year beforehand, thats a little too star studded and we are grown men but of course there are teams that seem pretty over loaded with star talent like the Lakers and its painful to watch right now while these stars struggle for chemistry.
