Bobcats help Wizards remain winless…eventually

Charlotte Bobcats 108 Final

Recap | Box Score

106 Washington Wizards

I’m doing tonight’s recap by grabbing thoughts on the players from twitter and a couple of tweets at the end on overall topics. We’ll be using this occasionally during the season to break up the recaps a bit. And if you’re not on twitter, it’s a good place to listen to some knowledgeable folks talk about basketball (the crazy fans are there too, but it’s all in who you follow).

Jeffery Taylor, SF 37 MIN | 3-6 FG | 4-6 FT | 3 REB | 0 AST | 12 PTS | +19
This is what Twitter says when you foul the jump shooter on a three as time expires and your team up two:

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, SF 24 MIN | 5-10 FG | 0-0 FT | 8 REB | 3 AST | 10 PTS | +7

Brendan Haywood, C 37 MIN | 1-2 FG | 0-0 FT | 5 REB | 2 AST | 2 PTS | 0

Byron Mullens, PF 46 MIN | 9-15 FG | 4-5 FT | 8 REB | 2 AST | 27 PTS | +2

Kemba Walker, PG 47 MIN | 3-17 FG | 6-8 FT | 7 REB | 8 AST | 12 PTS | -2

Ramon Sessions, PG 41 MIN | 6-14 FG | 9-11 FT | 5 REB | 3 AST | 21 PTS | -13

Ben Gordon, SG 31 MIN | 6-13 FG | 3-4 FT | 2 REB | 2 AST | 19 PTS | 0

I’m going to blame the refs instead of Taylor for that end of the game ‘foul’, if he touched that guy at all he BARELY did, and they only called that foul because the league basicly sent out a memo saying ‘screw the Bobcats’, citing a ‘foul’ that didn’t get called at the end of an earlier game….because it wasn’t a foul. This too simply wasnt a foul. The guy took a 3 pointer at the buzzer, he missed it, the end, at least thats how it should have been. Instead, we ultimately had to win in double overtime, playing down SIX MEN (3 to injury, 3 to the refs fouling them out), it was an incredible double-win (we won it at the end of regulation, had it stolen, and won it again at the end of the second OT). Of course it was a win against a winless team, but they just got their star player back, they were at home, and once again, we were down SIX MEN by the time this thing was over. I don’t care if you’re the best team in basketball, winning while down 6 men is still pretty impressive. Hopefully this is the start of a long and awesome winning streak!

@sir-i agree but they got A star player back, their star is wall and he wasn’t playing^^, wall would have made it hell for kemba i think

still great game, this team fights, Taylor looks like he is joining in the club with getting steals every other minute, i would prefer he stays in the starting lineup, have Ben play SG off the bench, Henderson SF off the bench, damn we will have a deadly offensive bench

The NBA should LAY OFF the Bobcats! Our players were getting beat up out there last night!!!!! We had three guys fouled out of the game and did anyone get fouled out for Washington???? wth!!!!

  • 4aseer

We as fans need to complain about this!!!! Our players are going to get hurt!!!

  • 4aseer

This bias on the part of the NBA against our fouls, like we are the only team in the NBA that ever committed one.

  • CHARLOTTEHORNETS

THAT WAS NOT I REPEAT NOT A FOUL ON TAYLOR. That was a make up call for the one the NBA “thinks” was a bad call against Toronto which in my opinion and a lot of other opinions was a good NO CALL. NBA seriously hates Carolina and I do not know why they do but first they allow the Hornets to leave for a SMALLER city and then recently they clearly allow refs to call it one way for YEARS against us. The NBA is a scam SMH.

  • Spencer/SDS

    @charlottehornets
i wouldn’t say the nab hates Carolina, but they/Stern hates Jordan, he hated Jordan for his black and red only shoes, he saw Jordan as a threat to him, helped kick him out of Washington and Stern’s dictatorship in total just doesn’t like Jordan, they cheated him from Anthony Davis and will continue to try and cheat him as long as he lives…he hates a man that possibly saved the NBA and made the NBA Millions upon Millions of dollars….

Lottery is a SCAM-twice the Bobcats got cheated of a 1st overall, not to mention the Timberwolves and their many failures to get a NUM 1 because of Stern…, he doesn’t like small market teams and he doesn’t like Jordan-a bad combo for us

Now onto why i came here

Henderson, does he start when he comes back? If not, does he go in as the backup for the SF spot or SG spot? Gordon, Henderson and Taylor is a pretty hefty bill for one position, personally i say keep on playing Taylor at the 2 as a starter thou…so i assume Henderson moves down to the 3…which he would play at in our smaller lineups either way…

Plus last question. If Hendo doesn’t look like he will re-sign before the deadline, what do we do? use the restricted rights and hope no one over does his contract via what the Rockets did this year? or trade him or what? Same thing with Mullens-althou i say no matter what make sure he doesn’t leave…he is too important to the future for us to just let him walk…

also Rookie of the year:MKG? i would say he has has one of the biggest impacts on his team so far this year, isn’t a star whore in the shooting department-something people usually only look at, but effort and just overall i would say he should get it.

steal of the draft: Jeffery Taylor? one reason just because he is getting the minutes, second is he was supposed to be a mid 1st, likely because of Perry Jones falling we got our shot at Taylor and so far he looks like a 1st rounder out there…

Most improved: Kemba Walker? who else as of now looks like they deserve that spot?

6th man: Sessions? Crawford of LAC i think will get it:due to overall record being better and just about the same type of impact but damn sessions has been good…

coach of the year: Dunlap-most improved record? fastest time to meet their total win from the year previous in history^^

I mean seriously at this point all those players have chances to get all of those awards-its still early in the season and injuries, other players stepping up on others teams, Charlotte quieting down, but either way, damn our future looks bright at this point-hopefully we don’t get to the playoffs this year thou, i want a lottery pick and i don’t want to not get a pick because of that Tyrus Thomas trade…

  • charlottean

I don’t buy the stern conspiracy theories but i hate nba officiating. The foul wasn’t anywhere near as bad as the no calls on nene for throwing heisman status stiff arms out there all night.

Most improved won’t go to walker. It’s possible, but i would lean mayo or one of houstons guys thus far. Walker has been greatly improved but it’s smaller base sample. Parsons has been an equally incredible jump in year 2.

Coach has to be dunlap no brainer. 6th man will be sessions if he continues to score 20 a game off the bench. Stats alone will get him that.

Rookie of the year is a 3 man race between davis mkg and lillard. Nobody else except maaaaaaybe shved of taylor would make the conversation. I think lillard and mkg have been equally impactful but davis will win off of a few gaudy games.

Mullens will eventually deserve some most improved consideration. If he starts making the shots with regularity. Last night was great but they went away from him too much down the strecth and gordon was missing horrible shots.

We need thomas badly. I hope henderson is kept and takes gordon’s role. We have the cap room to match any offers on mullens and henderson but i highly doubt henderson commands huge money. Probably in the 6 million range. Not a lot of teams with room and need both. Hard to see dallas or houston or orlando or toronto or milwaukee or atlanta making a big offer. More likely are contenders making mle offers assuming they can. If washington were smart they would, but they aren’t.

Highly likely hendo is back on the tender. I just hope taylor keeps playing when he gets back.

Would love to see us manuever a deal for derrick williams with thomas out. The need help at the 2….maybe a williams and warrick for williams when warrick is able to be traded. Throw in a conditional 1st or whatever.

  • Spencer/SDS

IDK bout Williams, he hasn’t been playing good and is going to go to the bottom of the bench once Minnesota get’s their injured players back, maybe Warrick/Williams and a 2nd rounder at most…dude is an undersized PF that cant make shots-right now at least- and isn’t the best defensively at all, would rather take a look at Martin in free agency if we see more injuries to our bigs-hopefully Bismack gets back soon, i think he was active but didn’t start, probably just had him active for emergency if others got majorly hurt or was based on how he felt during warm ups

If Henderson starts making 3′s i will take him taking Gordon’s role, if he keeps on taking them and missing them, no thank you, Gordon’s ability to just go off and start making shot after shot and spreading the floor is invaluable for this team. If Henderson starts making those 3′s, if not no thank, we need more people to spread the floor past 15 feet and be dangerous…

if we get hendo at 6 mill ea year, i’d take that in a heart beat^^, if more i will think about it, now what will Mullen’s be offered this free agency year, we might have to pay him 10 mill a year-terrible for a 7 footer that has range and can rebound and can defend alright-looking more and more like a havoc causing player on defense, not great 1 on 1 but can just piss you off with simple steals due to his length and what not…

Parson’s i would give it to, Lin sucks-worst defensive starting pg in the league-other than Nash. Asik isn’t doing much different then he did in Chicago, just more minutes with the same results, just with the more minutes it looks like his stats have improved, statistically he hasn’t other then at the minutes, same thing goes with Harden really. Parson’s could get it.

personally i feel like when people look at the “most improved” they are too focused on the points rebounds and assists, rather then the per 48 for those categories for them and the shooting %, Kemba has improved drastically with the shooting%-other then at the 3 point line, rebounding still very good or a 6 footer, plus his turnovers have gone down, while APG stay the same-per 48 anyway,

basically Kemba is playing more minutes, while shooting better statistically, has less turnovers pg then when he played less minutes per game, while maintaining the same level of assists per 48…that’s good…if you look at Anderson last year-winning of most improved, he didn’t improve anything but more playing time and free throw % and slightly more ORPG. other then that it was just more minutes

    • Spencer/SDS

when i said terrible for a 7 footer, i meant not terrible/not bad for basically such a rare player, my bad, i really wish you could have the ability to edit these posts…

Henderson can develop the range. He just brings a smarter game to the table, way more defense, etc. He can score with the same efficiencies as gordon if given the same role. I think we have enough shooters now with mullens and taylor, walker improving, sessions, williams, etc. Hendo vs. Gordon i’m taking henderson everytime on both ends of the floor.

As for derrick williams, he already is buried on the bench with love and pekovic back which should lower his value greatly. He’s had big games. He’s a blue chip talent without attitude problems. Perfect rotation guy if you ask me….even if he is a tweener. I would give up a mid first rounder for the guy easy. It’s not his fault david khan drafted him. Either he or thomas robinson have to be up for grabs and worth grabbing for our bench long term. Williams is far more likely to fall in line and be available also.

As for mullens, if he finishes in the range he is now, 8 million is about what he’ll command. I expect he finishes more 16/17ppg 9.5 boards a block a steal 2 assists and shooting 33 on 3′s and 43%+ overall. If that’s the case the price is going up ©marlo stansfield. Thing is…..we have a clean slate to give henderson, mullens, walker, biyombo, taylor and mkg all extensions if we slot them appropriately. Mullens, biyombo and mkg will be the most expensive unless biyombo takes longer than 4 years to develop. I don’t see any max deals in the bunch which is what we want. Last thing you want is a derrick rose/brandon roy/amare/bynum/eric gordon type situation.

    Or a roy hibbert situation.

  • Spencer/SDS

true on everything, Robinson i would take in a heart beat, but i doubt the Kings give up on him in less then half a year…he is behind Cousins and Thompson in the lineup, two 7 footers that both have had years to develop their 1st round talent abilities-Cousins top 3 overall talent while he is just hasn’t had the time…

if i were the Kings i would look to move him to SF and play big…they don’t have any PFS to back up Thompson thou so they won’t at least this year…Robinson has rare ball handling skills for a guy that is 6 ft 10…it’s not great, but it has been under appreciated since when he was in college…plus he has a developing jump shot that looks good, really i see him being a 3 in this league if a team ever gives him the chance…Williams idk, i just never have liked him, thought he was over-rated coming out of college, any other year he should have been 10-16 range draft pick wise…but mid 1st rounder while giving up only 1 other player? i wouldn’t mind that trade too much i guees.

    now onto the thunder game^^
