Bobcats lose an ugly one to the Celtics.

Boston Celtics 96 Final
Recap | Box Score
86 Charlotte Bobcats
Josh McRoberts, PF 34 MIN | 2-6 FG | 0-0 FT | 7 REB | 5 AST | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 0 TO | 5 PTS | +11

Connects the offense. Again, that’s his job and will be as long as he’s on this roster. Most dangerous asset he possesses is the unpredictable result of the dribble handoff – keeps defense way off balance and ball watching, as Dell Curry pointed out on the broadcast.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, SF 17 MIN | 2-4 FG | 0-0 FT | 4 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 4 PTS | -1

Jeff Green guarding MKG really showed us how slow the release is on his jump shot. Not how ugly, but how slow. So now we all have that to complain about.

Al Jefferson, C 33 MIN | 6-14 FG | 2-2 FT | 3 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 2 BLK | 2 TO | 14 PTS | -1

Just never could get it going consistently tonight. Had some nice moments offensively, but couldn’t explode and force the Celtics to blitz him when the ball went in. Watching this game last night was the coming out party for just how stand still the offense can become when Jefferson has the ball. I literally counted 5 seconds on on sequence where Big Al simply faced up and sized up his defender.

Kemba Walker, PG 34 MIN | 11-17 FG | 5-6 FT | 6 REB | 5 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 3 TO | 28 PTS | +10

Going to the rim and finishing, or at least getting in the painted area. It’s clear that Kemba has abandoned the long jumper for the time being and is attacking the defense off the dribble. Bravo to you Kemba! After the pathetic 5-game stretch where Kemba shot 24% from the floor, he’s impressively rebounded.

Gerald Henderson, SG 37 MIN | 7-17 FG | 6-6 FT | 5 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 20 PTS | +10

For a guy who I’m fairly certain had a one-on-one meeting with Jordan the day after the Brooklyn win, I’ll take this. Not that Hendo was already pretty assertive when he caught the ball in an ISO situation, it seems to have intensified.

Jeff Adrien, PF 15 MIN | 0-0 FG | 1-2 FT | 3 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 1 PTS | -9

Ladies and Gents, he’s replaced Biyombo in the rotation. For the time being, at least.

Ramon Sessions, PG 19 MIN | 1-7 FG | 3-4 FT | 0 REB | 3 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 4 TO | 5 PTS | -18

Well, the stat line sort of tells the whole story. Oh, but then don’t forget the 4 turnovers. Ewww.

Jeff Taylor, SG 27 MIN | 3-6 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 7 PTS | -22

Something that stands out in this game is that Taylor will receive a lot less FG opportunities with Jefferson healthy and Hendo in his ‘I wanna be like Kobe’ mode.

Bismack Biyombo, C DNP COACH’S DECISION MIN | FG | FT | REB | AST | STL | BLK | TO | PTS |

And here we are. Wasn’t sure how this was going to end, but are we now there?

Steve Clifford

Question: (everyone feel free to chime in) Coach, is Adrien’s new emergence in the rotation over Biz simply a result of Adrien’s play as of late, or do you like him more as an overall player?

Two Things We Saw

  1. Boston shot 9-20 (45%) from deep and Charlotte countered with a measly 3-9 (33%).
  2. The Bobcats committed 17 turnovers, but the Celtics only coughed it up 12 times. This was area that Boston has struggled in early in the season, so taking care of the ball played a huge role in their win.

I don’t understand cliffords rotations. He claims that Taylor gives the team better spacing but, MKG was minus 1 and Taylor was minus 22…. 20 year old Biz should be playing over a 26 year old Jeff Adrien. Are we building a team or trying to squeeze out meaningless wins with vets that aren’t apart of ou future? I’m more frustrated this year than at any point last season.

don’t pay attention to individual +/- there are way too many variables involved.

they are basing EVERYTHING on the fact that adrien has an insanely inflated +/- right now as if he was the entire reason for the runs we had while he was on the floor. ignoring the fact that he’s only played 15 mpg in 11 games and his career numbers are significantly lower.

it’s the absolute worst coaching/management possible for this situation. I love jeff adrien, but he’s about to turn 28. biz gives you the same production at 21, has much higher potential, and gives you way better defense and size at the 5 spot. people complain biyombo is undersized…….jeff adrien is 2 inches shorter……4 inches shorter standing reach and wingspan both. biyombo’s vertical wasn’t measured at the combine, but I would put a lot of money on it being greater than adrien’s. a few scouts said it’s as high as zeller’s which i don’t believe but even if it’s close, you’re talking about a foot of coverage in all angles on size alone. and you benched him after a very solid game against brooklyn.

MKG is another animal. clifford says you bench him for offense because we were down…….we were down because defense was leaky. we got outrebounded and we turned the ball over and sessions had A LOT to do with the turnovers. he’s been that way the last several games.

3-0 when biyombo plays 30 minutes or more.
    5-4 when he starts
    1-2 when he doesn’t play.

0-3 when MKG plays less than 20 minutes.

I’m all for tanking, but only if the young guys play. roll out walker/taylor/MKG/zeller/biyombo for 40 mpg and let sessions look like he’s shaving points for 8 minutes in between. lose by 2 every night. everybody wins.

this ish?! eff no. it’s going to cost us not only 2014′s pick, but 2011 and 2012 also. and 2013 isn’t exactly being given much to succeed either. all those post ups for jefferson and none for zeller? are you serious?

if this direction continues……it’s equally as bad as the dampier trade.

can someone explain to me how MKG was not credited with a block on gerald wallace? that was tayshaun prince esque.

no complaints on the grades other than being to lenient on clifford. everything else seemed appropriate.

  • Felix

Taylor only can shoot and dunk, his defense is overrated.

  • charlottean

he can play man to man on the perimeter at an extremely high level.

boston took advantage of him by posting him up, and he gets caught napping off the ball wayyyyy too much. but man on man……especially once he’s an established 5 or 6 year veteran (to get the calls)….dude will eat up some of these elite point guards.

but no effing way is he deserving of more minutes than MKG. even offensively, TS% is 45.2% to MKG’s 54.7%. and taylor doesn’t give you the handles, the post ups, or the passing MKG gives you. the only thing he gives you is range, but MKG has been making enough long 2′s that i would argue against the value taylor’s 27.5% on 3′s is bringing us.

i don’t see how the same coach that buys into jeff adrien’s inflated metrics is ignoring taylor’s abominable metrics thus far this season. both will eventually level out, but he’s hurting the team and MKG and biz because of it.

tolliver should not be sniffing the floor. not even when jefferson is out. there’s just no effing point in investing minutes in guys that won’t be here long term and taking them away from the guys that should be. it’s just absolutely backwards. it’s the kind of ish larry brown would do……like ruining d.j. augustin by giving minutes to flip murray even though augustin was outperforming him across the board. or ruining adam morrison by putting him in the worst possible situations and complaining when the results were mediocre and taking the credit when they were good.

we had the perfect guy last year. he was going to create an army of the illest basketball players. he wasn’t making friends, he was making progress. we fired him, brought in some veterans…… comes mediocrity yayyyyyyy.

Biz vs Adrien – Adrien has cooler hair, but other than that Biz wins short and long term.
    MKG needs more burn time.
Do not understand the playing time at all
    Agree with Charlottean.

he’s doing this all off of individual +/- over the span of something like 75 minutes. i’m not at all kidding when I say this dude lost ALL credibility from me permanently. he sounds just as bad as rod higgins saying the dampier trade saved us money and gave us cap flexibility.

days like these make me WANT to jump ship. i really gotta stop wasting time on this horribly run franchise.

  • Dave Walshy

Trade Kemba Walker so I can root for a different team. They are squandering all the potential they have over the next few years. Jefferson can still get his touches as long as he looks to pass a little bit more but they really need to play the younger players more. I’m a huge UConn fan and obviously am a fan of Adrien but he should just be coming in occasionally for energy with Biyombo playing much more and MKG should play 32+ minutes every game unless hes injured or too tired. What they are doing now is literally the worst possible scenario for everyone and everything except Al Jefferson’s PPG and the win total for this season only.

  • charlottean

i’m already off the clifford bandwagon though……he exposed himself and his lack of intelligence with these moves.

i too, as a jeff adrien fan want the guy ON THE TEAM. he’s the absolute ideal injury replacement big man the way nate robinson is for guards. but he’s not what biyombo can be. and he’s getting demoted for the exact same misinformation that he was promoted on. he gets a -9 +/- in 5 minutes and they go back to biyombo. its just showing that clifford (and our front office apparently) don’t know what the eff they are doing when they read stats. and that’s sad because I was almost sure cho knew what the eff he was doing. and because I was hoping clifford was a great coach because dunlap actually was and the last thing we need is ANOTHER coaching change.
