‘Melo sets record in MSG. Yeah, the Bobcats lost

Charlotte Bobcats 96 Final
Recap | Box Score
125 New York Knicks
Josh McRoberts, PF Shot Chart 30 MIN | 2-4 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 2 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 6 PTS | -34

Forgot that McRoberts was even on the floor in the 1st quarter when he had one foul and one assist. He’s one example of what style of game this ended up being.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, SF Shot Chart 18 MIN | 2-4 FG | 0-1 FT | 2 REB | 3 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 4 PTS | -18

Only played 18 mins, but spent most of it on ‘Melo Island. That’s about all.

Al Jefferson, C Shot Chart 31 MIN | 11-19 FG | 3-4 FT | 9 REB | 2 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 25 PTS | -36

Abused any defender that attempted to check him in the 1st half. I still am trying to grasp how the second half of this game was real, in general. I thought I died and woke up in an AAU game.

Ramon Sessions, PG Shot Chart 30 MIN | 3-8 FG | 6-6 FT | 1 REB | 3 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 12 PTS | -34

Sessions and Jefferson got a nice duo attack going in the 1st, but that was halted by ‘Melo.

Gerald Henderson, SG Shot Chart 32 MIN | 4-9 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 8 PTS | -30

I just wish he could get more involved in the offense with Jefferson on the floor.

Bismack Biyombo, C Shot Chart 17 MIN | 3-4 FG | 2-2 FT | 8 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 3 BLK | 0 TO | 8 PTS | +7

The numbers look decent, but this stat line is impossible to take seriously due to the fact that all of this came in junk time when zero defense was being played.

Jannero Pargo, PG Shot Chart 32 MIN | 4-11 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 8 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 3 TO | 11 PTS | -14

The tale of two halves — Pargo killed it in the first half (3-6 3FG) – second half, not so much (0-3). Nonetheless, this guy can really shoot the ball when he’s in rhythm.

Chris Douglas-Roberts, SG Shot Chart 16 MIN | 5-7 FG | 0-0 FT | 0 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 14 PTS | +1

Speaking of junk time. All of CDR’s points came in the final quarter.

Steve Clifford

I feel bad for you sir. Defensively, there’s nothing that negates a player what he wants when someone is playing like ‘Melo did tonight.

Two Things We Saw

  1. Carmelo Anthony scored 62 points tonight. That’s his career high and also the all-time points in a game record for Madison Square Garden. Go ahead, you can stand up and start clapping now.
  2. The Bobcats come home for a game against Chicago tomorrow night – probably close to a must win before their 4-game west coast swing beginning next Wednesday.

2 rebounds in 30 minutes for McBob… PLAY THE YOUNG BIGS MORE!!!

Hendo just is a terrible fit for this team on offense. I hate to say it because he is a fine player but his game just doesn’t compliment anyone or anything they are trying to do on offense. He defense definitely helps though. I feel bad for the dude because he has been loyal and stuck around through the bad times and yet he always seems to be getting the raw deal. I wish for his sake (and the sake of our pick this year) that he would have signed with a team that could have utilized him more and actually seemed to want him.

Henderson is a GREAT 6th man for any team (even this team) he shouldn’t be a starter for any team however…his 3pt game…or lack of one prevents him from ever making a leap to starter quality IMO…we need to trade him to the Thunder for Perkins and picks…wait nvm…Clifford would just play Perkins and Jefferson as the 4 and 5 for whatever godly reason and declare our young bigs the worst he has ever coached….AHHHHHH RAGE RAGE RAGE….I hate Clifford for coaching this team more and more game by game, day by day…

  • Spencer/SDS

I just read your notes on Clifford a bloody C??? a C??? he couldn’t do anything better???? WHAT IN THE HELL????? DID YOU WATCH THE GAME???? YOU guys have declared him a defensive genius NEVER have I seen a defensive minded coahc look so bloody stupid with his matchups defensively??? FEEL BAD???? THE guy deserves to be fired for how bad of a coach he is??? WHAT IN THE HELL…feel bad for HIM???? Feel bad for mcroberts of all things for being forced to guard Melo for more then 1 minute…clifford??? Call him the bloody idiot he is and give him F’s for god sakes….are you guys on his (BJ) pay roll he has going out to the media???

  • Dave Walshy

True, he would be a good sixth man for us. I think he could start for some teams and do well though.

jefferson for eric gordon or evan turner needs to happen NOW.

i have this weird feeling that we’re going to be picking 9th and everyone will talk about the top 6 picks and what not…….and we’ll land someone like rodney hood. and he just turn out to be an absolute stud franchise guy. and MJ and cho and higgins are going to just exude confidence about the great job they did and clifford will ramble on and on about how the advanced metrics that he doesn’t understand show how jefferson is such a good defender because of how well he plays offense (sort of). and everyone will take credit for some dumb blind luck that just went their way. and they’ll never get fired, never get replaced, nothing. at this point I just want to wake up one day and see jordan lost his ish and fired everybody and hired one of the top GM’s on a godfather deal and gave them carte blanche on basketball opps. he’d be better off letting barkley do it than higgins. but it should be somebody in the vein of john paxson or steve kerr. let scottie pippen coach the team for all I care. just stop making these idiotic decisions like playing mcroberts over zeller. in games that don’t matter.

we aren’t making the playoffs. everybody in the league should know this. just look at the schedule. we’re on pace for 34 wins. we’ll probably end up with less as our schedule evens out. new york will finish with more than 35 wins. cleveland might too. detroit definitely will. and if we win too many games….we’ll finish just outside of the playoffs with no draft pick. and we don’t deserve that pick. we don’t deserve to ruin another augustin, or ajinca, or henderson, or mkg, or biyombo, or zeller, or felton, or morrison. we don’t deserve that. those kids don’t deserve that. if there was ever a franchise to ruin andrew wiggins………we’re it. dude will end up looking like wesley johnson or darius miles.

there’s almost no exit strategy here……even if they smartened up and dumped jefferson and mcroberts and started playing zeller and biz……..they still might end up with only portland’s pick and they’re still stuck with clifford (they aren’t going to fire another coach even though they should, right?) and they’ve already wasted over half the season not improving anybody on the roster. nobody got better this year. just a waste of a season. no progress. further away than we were last year. our summer league team is better than our starting lineup from tonight.

    • Rashad

I think you’re over reacting a little bit. Yeah we didn’t look good tonight but to say that we haven’t improved is crazy. Last time I checked we have 19 wins. We have more than the Knicks. We finished last season with 21 wins. I think we are improving and every team has nights were they get blown out. If I’m not mistaken there was a team that only scored 68 points for the whole game. That wasn’t the Bobcats so I think we have a plan for the long haul. If we don’t trade anyone before the trade deadline that will only free up more space. We have to eventually give Chicago their draft pick. We are still owed the Portland pick and the way that they are playing it looks like this year will be the year that we get that pick. Steve Clifford will be back next year for sure. There must be something that we don’t know about Zeller as the reason why he may not be starting. It may be that offense of his. Overall, I believe that we will be just fine in the long run.

THANK YOU RASHARD! Too many critics in here.

I get the desire to develop young talent but this team is two players away from contending. We played without Kemba… We need outside scoring talent …

The next moves this team makes are critical for sure.. They can’t afford to screw it up now….

  • NCTony

Don’t forget we traded Tobias Harris pick plus Livingston to move up to get the Biz…..

  • charlottean

that isn’t actual improvement. none of the players are getting better, they just brought in older players. this isn’t a high brow concept, you guys should be able to see the difference.

if we won 29 games with zeller and biyombo and mkg playing a bunch, that shows way more improvement than winning 34 with jefferson mcroberts, tolliver, etc.

tony – you’re leaving out that we got rid of jackson for maggette for gordon and got a 1st back for that. so we basically gave up harris and livingston for biz and a future first. that’s not a bad deal. harris is a player but biz is much harder to replace.

i’m only overreacting because of the amount of history of frustration. they set a plan in place and NEVER FOLLOW THROUGH with it. that’s where the overreactions come in. not from 1 game. not from 1 loss.

this team is garbage. they aren’t moving forward in any way. jefferson isn’t bringing any rings to charlotte so why are we wasting time with him instead of constantly looking for the guy that WILL bring some rings to charlotte.
