Bobcats vs Pistons Recap

Boxscore of Bobcats vs Pistons – 11/11/2009
Score: 98-75 Detroit
Bobcats Record: 3-5
Offensive Efficiency: 90.4
Defensive Efficiency: 116.7
Meritorious Player: Nazr Mohammed 13pts, 8 rebs on 5-7 shooting in 15 mins

Larry Brown wasn't happy after this game as Steve Martin & Dell Curry mentioned on Fox that the locker room was closed beyond the mandatory 10 minute cool off period. Defense, or the Bobcats lack thereof is likely what got his ire up.

When Charlie Villanueva goes nova and Ben Gordon is doing what he normally does Detroit is a tough cover as Charlotte found out Wednesday. Still the reality is that for the Charlotte Bobcats to win defense will have to be paramount and allowing a team to shoot 55 percent for the game will not fly.

Boris Diaw is still not in optimum shape as on one fastbreak Villanueva zoomed right by him for an uncontested dunk. Fatigue looked to be a factor on a few more plays especially in the 3rd when the Pistons were raining jumpers all over the place. Its not easy to keep your effort level high when the other team gets hot and you're shooting blanks at the other end, but that's the only way this team can compete.

The 19 turnovers didn't help but I get the feeling that's something Charlotte will struggle with all season so they'll have to make up for those empty possessions by forcing some turnovers on the other end. Detroit however to care of the ball and if it wasn't for Austin Daye forgetting how to make a move without traveling the Pistons would've had only eight miscues in the game.

And there is another problem worth mentioning and that's DJ Augustin. He hasn't scored more than four points in his last three games and got an extremely quick hook in the 2nd quarter when he missed a rolling Derrick Brown and forced up a shot instead. Larry Brown took him out immediately and he didn't see the light of day until late in the third when Charlotte was down by 25.

It's clear he's not certain how to play point guard for Larry Brown yet and his confidence has taken a hit. Some how he and Larry are going to have to work this out because he is the one Bobcat that can really help ease their offensive woes.

There's plenty of practice time to fix what's ailing with two days before Portland comes in on Saturday. That won't be an easy task but we'll be watching.
