Bobcats vs Blazers Recap

Bobcats Record: 3-6
Offensive Efficiency: 92.5
Defensive Efficiency: 95.2

This game clearly wasn't about effort it was about the one thing that Charlotte will struggle with all season long with this current roster, shooting. Larry Brown said it best, “When you put so much pressure on your defense, we shoot 57 percent from the line, 31 percent from three. You have to defend a lot against a pretty good offensive team, and that puts a whole lot of stress on you.”

With every sub 40% shooting night when Charlotte loses it's easy to say that they didn't make enough shots and even though it would be lazy analysis it would be correct. But this Portland game sticks out like a sore thumb mainly because the Trailblazers were the top offense a year ago and even now they're in the top 10.

To hold this team to just 80 points on 42 percent shooting should bring the fans out of there seats. Charlotte did everything they could against Brandon Roy who had a very efficient 25 points on just 16 shots, seven rebounds and five assists.

Roy started out cold missing four of his first five but he said he didn't let that get to him, “I was missing shots early but I felt like they were good shots, I didn't feel like I was forcing it. I told myself I've just got to concentrate and keep shooting them. Once one dropped for me I felt like I got into a good rhythm.”

He made seven of his next eight helping Portland build a 16 point lead in the third before Charlotte rallied thanks to Boris Diaw's 12 points in the third where he made all five of his shots. Diaw took 18 shots tonight and coach Larry Brown was happy to see him in a more aggressive mood offensively but when your guards go four for 20 it's tough to overcome that.

The effort was there tonight but to be honest the talent and DJ Augustin wasn't. Augustin had only four points tonight and he seems to be unsure of what play to make out there on offense. There was one time he passed up an open three to swing the ball around and the Bobcats took a more difficult shot.

Again he's going to have to find his way if the Bobcats offense is ever going to get in gear. Larry Brown wants his point guards to make plays for others but right now DJ can't make a shot or make a play and until that changes this offense will continue to struggle.
