After selecting Vonleh with the nine pick, Cho was ready to get dealing. The AP is reporting that we’ve dealt the rights to the number 45 pick, Stanford forward Dwight Powell and center Brendan Haywood to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for veteran forward Alonzo Gee.
Gee is a five year veteran who started at small forward for the Cavs for two years before losing his starting job to Earl Clark last year. He was largely ineffective in his new bench role, averaging 4 points 2.3 rebounds in a little under 16 minutes of play. His 3 million dollar deal is not guaranteed this year, so he could be waived in a salary dump that would pave the way for an even more aggressive free agency push.
This deal can’t be finalized until July and the details are subject to change. We’ll keep you updated as the situation develops.
