Police said that one man was being taken into custody when Beyer thought it’d be a good idea to get involved. Beyer was charged with obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.
Beyer has coached in the NBA as an assistant since 2003 — he’s been a member of the coaching staffs in Toronto, Orlando, Golden State (last season) and now in Charlotte. This obviously isn’t the ideal situation for a first year assistant coach in a new city, but Beyer coached with head coach Steve Clifford in Orlando from 2007-2012. To add to that, Clifford thought enough of Beyer to add him to his staff in Charlotte. In short, it’s safe to say that Clifford will go to bat for Beyer here and the team will administer a slap on the wrist. That being said, you never know. Jordan, Cho and Higgins are clearly on the war path to make this franchise respectable and better, now, and this doesn’t fit exposure that would mold that.
The team has not made a comment about the incident yet, so we’ll wait and see.
