UPDATED: Bobcats Draft News + Updates

I’ve had numerous draft conversations with people this week and they’ve all carried a different point of view. No one is sure what is going to happen tonight + the only thing Charlotte can be sure of is that they’re seeming going to make a spur of the moment pick, depending on what happens 1-3. There’s simply no reports coming out of Cleveland, Orlando or Washington that suggest anybody knows exactly what’s going down beginning at 7:30 tonight.

From what I’ve been hearing, Cody Zeller is a hot topic within the front office in Charlotte right now + Rich Cho is rumored to be carrying that torch.

Here are some updates from some of the more well respected sources throughout the NBA on what Charlotte is leaning towards currently —

UPDATE: Joe Kotoch writes for Sheridan Hoops + he had the most accurate mock draft of anyone in 2012. That has given Chris Sheridan and his website legs moving into this summer and they’ve been swinging for the fences all week — claims of “100% confidence” that Alex Len will be the #1 overall pick if Cleveland doesn’t trade the pick + the Bobcats shopping Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and draft Otto Porter with the #4 pick.

I know. It all seems like a little bit too much, but Sheridan is taking it all to the bank and here are some of the claims they’re making in the final hours leading up to draft —

— The Wizards, according to a source, have placed Anthony Bennett at the top of their board. Bennett combined with John Wall and Bradley Beal would give the Wizards a dynamic threesome with plenty of offensive versatility. While some in the organization still like Otto Porter and think he is a safe choice, Bennett is the guy they are leaning toward.

This would allow Porter to drop to Charlotte at No. 4, which makes Michael Kidd-Gilchrist expendable. The teams trying hardest to get him are Golden State, Milwaukee, Boston and Atlanta.

— It is true that Cody Zeller’s name is being discussed in Charlotte and Phoenix, and he could be selected in the top 5, but I suspect those teams are more inclined to move down and grab Zeller rather than reach for him.

— On the trade front, it sounds like possibly five lottery picks could be traded tonight. Minnesota and Portland, along with the aforementioned Mavs, continue to reach out to teams to discuss potential deals as their respective draft picks are available to the highest bidder.

Some information is starting to trickle out of Charlotte. The team is looking at Len, Bennett, Porter and Cody Zeller. In fact, I think Zeller might be in the mix more than I once believed. But my most convincing source persuaded me the Bobcats won’t pass on McLemore if he’s here.

The Bobcats and Kings look like the two teams most willing to move down.
