‘Cats Struggle, Lose in Houston

Charlotte Bobcats 87 Final
Recap | Box Score
107 Houston Rockets
Corey Maggette, SF 22 MIN | 3-9 FG | 2-2 FT | 2 REB | 0 AST | 10 PTS | -12

A pair of three pointers was the lone highlight for Corey during his 22 minutes on the floor. He continues to chip away at Steve Novak’s league-leading (for a small forward) low assist rate though, as he once again managed to card a doughnut.

Tyrus Thomas, PF 19 MIN | 3-8 FG | 1-2 FT | 3 REB | 2 AST | 7 PTS | -12

Good to see Thomas logging more minutes. Overall he looked a bit more assertive, which is certainly encouraging.

Bismack Biyombo, C 30 MIN | 1-4 FG | 2-2 FT | 5 REB | 1 AST | 4 PTS | -32

Not an overly impressive game for Biz, though he still managed to block 4 shots – ho hum. Dalembert and Hill got the best of him on the boards, however.

Gerald Henderson, G 26 MIN | 4-11 FG | 2-2 FT | 4 REB | 3 AST | 10 PTS | -31

Gerald made a few nice jumpers off the curl (per usual), but failed to get to the line with any regularity (2 attempts).

D.J. Augustin, PG 20 MIN | 4-7 FG | 0-0 FT | 0 REB | 3 AST | 9 PTS | -15

Four TO’s versus only 3 assists for D.J. He also had a difficult time containing Dragic, who started in place of the injured Kyle Lowry and got into the lane frequently en route to 10 assists.

Boris Diaw, PF 13 MIN | 0-1 FG | 0-0 FT | 0 REB | 3 AST | 0 PTS | -3

A fitting stat-line if it in fact was Boris’ last game in a Bobcat uniform.

D.J. White, PF 16 MIN | 2-5 FG | 2-2 FT | 4 REB | 1 AST | 6 PTS | -5

Standard performance by D.J. White. A pair of mid-range jumpers and lackluster defense in the paint.

Reggie Williams, SF 17 MIN | 4-7 FG | 1-1 FT | 4 REB | 4 AST | 10 PTS | +5

Williams is out there to make shots and he did that tonight. He also chipped in with three steals and 4 assists.

Derrick Brown, F 26 MIN | 6-10 FG | 3-4 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 15 PTS | -8

Solid burn for D. Brown off the bench. You count on him for hustle plays, and he was able to provide such in the way of 4 steals. He has pull down more than 1 board in twenty-six minutes, however.

Kemba Walker, PG 28 MIN | 3-13 FG | 0-0 FT | 4 REB | 8 AST | 6 PTS | -5

It does appear as if Kemba has hit the rookie wall Coach Silas mentioned earlier in the week, as he continues to struggle with his shot. I’ll take a 4 to 1 turnover rate any day though.

Byron Mullens, C 18 MIN | 3-6 FG | 4-4 FT | 2 REB | 0 AST | 10 PTS | +12

He, along with the rest of the bigs, really struggled to compete against the likes of Dalembert, Scola, and Hill on the boards. Hasheem Thabeet managed to outrebound him in only 3 minutes of play.

Two Things We Saw

  1. Thabeet Alert! When you see the former UConn “star” on the floor you know it’s been a rough night for the ‘Cats.
  2. Thursday at 3 PM. That’s when we’ll know if Diaw, Augustin, Maggette, or any of the current Bobcats can be called former Bobcats. There hasn’t been much talk over the past 24 hours, though I’ll still be surprised if Jordan and Co. don’t pull the trigger on a single deal before the deadline.
