Bryan: They have to be on the floor together. There aren’t any back court options better than either of them waiting in the wings, and there aren’t many other players on this team that can create their own shot. Also, Kemba needs to get a lot of burn just because it’s the end of the season and rookies need experience.
Spencer: I think that Maggette now being out for the rest of the season will help Kemba and Augustin see playing tim together. With the two on the floor together it certainly helps offensively, especially when they’re penetrating and creating opportunities for everyone, but they’re a liability on the boards and defensively.
2- Byron Mullens didn’t score Tuesday night in Cleveland and only took 3 shots in 26 min of action. Is this maturity sign for Mullens, recognizing the hot hand(s) and willing to take on a different role when needed, or is this simply a factor of his inconsistency?
Bryan: 2. A little bit of both. We know Mullens isn’t afraid to fire 20+ shots at the rim in a given game, so I don’t think he was being timid. Still, if one or two of his three shots went in, he probably would’ve taken more.
Spencer: I actually thought I saw Byron adjust to the flow of the game Tuesday night. Some would simply look at his stat line and suggest otherwise, but I was really impressed at the way that Mullens attempted to find Augustin and Kemba for scoring before he took a bad shot himself. A small sign of more maturity and understanding of the game.
3- Bobcats are closing in on the franchise’ worst 16-game losing streak- a loss tonight would make it 14 straight. Pistons or Bobcats?
Bryan: Give me the Bobcats. Biyombo had a nice game against Cleveland, and I think he’ll show up big tonight against Greg Monroe and be a huge part of a Charlotte win.
Spencer: Pistons. The loss of Maggette is certainly going to hurt Charlotte because of his ability to get to the free throw line and generate easy points every night. On the contrary, I also see the offense possibly running smoother without Maggette, because with him in created a lot of Maggette ISO, empty possessions. The Bobcats literally have zero presence to finish around the rim now with Maggette out and Detroit has one of the best up and coming centers in this league, Greg Monroe. Watch for the points in the paint category to be heavily lopsided for Detroit tonight.
Note: Paul Silas announced this morning that Corey Maggette would miss the remainder of the season due to his Achilles injury.
