Hornets end losing streak; Defeat Wizards 98-93

Steve Clifford’s team was desperate for a win as they have lost 4 of their last 5 games and entered tonight 4.5 games behind the Miami Heat for the 8th playoff seed. Washington defeated Charlotte in the first two regular season match-ups this season, most recently on January 24th.

Nicolas Batum was back tonight for the Charlotte Hornets after missing the last two games due to migraines. Although Batum did not have his best game statistically, his presence on the court made a huge impact for the Hornets.

It was well-played game for both teams tonight. Neither side shot particularly well but both managed to play good defense and limit open-shot opportunities. Offensively, Washington shot a dreadful 36% from the field compared to 43% by the Hornets.

Charlotte held a three-point lead going into the 4th quarter. Steve Clifford’s team needed an offensive spark and Frank Kaminsky stepped up to the challenge. Frank scored 12 of his 14 points in the 4th quarter and his spark off the bench was critical in tonight’s 98-93 win over the Washington Wizards.

“Tonight was a great team win,” said Nicolas Batum. “We really were ready to play.”

Cody Zeller led the way tonight for Charlotte with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals and two blocks. He was also very efficient from the field making 8 of his 10 shot attempts. Kemba Walker finished with 16 points and Nicolas Batum had a good all-around effort with 8 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Next up the Charlotte Hornets will host the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night in the Spectrum Center. Tipoff is set for 7:00 on Fox Sports South.
