The first cup is on us.
It was a quiet first day on the free agency front for the Hornets. With lots of dominoes still to fall, I don’t think many expected Charlotte to be a big player early. But it has been exceptionally quiet for all the ballyhoo about superstar splashes and cap space.
Livingston The Good Life
Meanwhile, one of the Hornets reported interests got swept away by a big offer from a Western Conference powerhouse.
Yahoo Sources: Golden State, Shaun Livingston agree on a 3-year, $16M free agent deal. http://t.co/tcRVpBQYaz

The Warriors snagged the 6’7″ guard with their mid-level exception that netted Livingston over 4 million a year. Would have been tough for the Hornets to offer him more than their starting point guard currently makes. Better value lies out their in the free agent landscape, unfortunately it won’t net us someone of Livingston’s unique size and ability. But good for Shaun. Here’s hoping his successful comeback story stays on track.
He Wants Luol The Money
Luol Deng, like Lebron, is no mood for a pay cut. He turned down a 3 year 30 million dollar extension form the Bulls last year that landed him in Cleveland. “YOU GO TO BASKETBALL JAIL, LUOL!” Though his numbers dipped in Cleveland, expect Deng to command +10million figures when teams start competing.
He’s an option for the Hornets for sure, but over 10 million for another non-shooter on this offense would be a brutal reality.
McRoberts and Hornets in a Tree…Reportedly
First Steve Clifford called on draft night to reassure McRoberts that Vonleh didn’t MEAN anything, then McRoberts agent (who happens to be Memphis guard Mike Conley Jr’s papa) said this via Rick Bonnell
“Quite a few teams have expressed” interest, Mike Conley Sr. said in a phone interview Tuesday. “We haven’t gone into any in-depth discussions yet, but we know how the Hornets want him.”
Oh…you know what they want. It seems inevitable these two lovebirds find a way to get back together. “You had me at hello.”
No Pun Here. Sad News for Patty Mills
News out of his home country of Australia is that Patty Mills will have surgery on a torn rotator cuff and will be out until March. Bad news for anyone in Charlotte wanting his services after an electric Finals performance. The good news is it appears the Spurs are still interested in signing him.
That’s all for now. Check back tomorrow morning to see if we have a fresh brew.
