Observer Report: Hornets Putting in Bid for Future All-Star Game

Time Warner Cable Arena

With the formal announcement coming Tuesday morning, Charlotte Observer reporter Rick Bonnell is reporting that the Hornets organization will put in a bid for a future All-Star weekend, possibly as soon as 2017.

From the Observer:

The Charlotte Hornets plan to formally submit a bid Tuesday to host either the 2017 or 2018 NBA All-Star Weekend, a source close to the process said Monday….

The NBA awarded the 2015 All-Star Weekend to New York and the 2016 event to Toronto. A decision on 2017 and ’18 is expected sometime this coming winter or spring.

That decision could hinge on upgrades to the now nine-year-old Time Warner Cable Arena, a point NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has outlined multiple times. In recent statements Silver was very complimentary of Charlotte as a potential destination and expressed his desire for them to make a bid. Charlotte last hosted All-Star Weekend in 1991.

Queen City Hoops has learned from sources that the Hornets will meet with deputy NBA Commissioner Mark Tatum tomorrow to discuss the entire bidding process.
