Orlando Magic 92, Charlotte Bobcats 83: This Could Have Gone Better

Orlando Magic 92 FinalRecap | Box Score 83 Charlotte Bobcats
Josh McRoberts, PF 33 MIN | 5-7 FG | 0-0 FT | 5 REB | 3 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 11 PTS | -3

McRoberts acquitted himself pretty well when everyone looked flat. Easily had the highlight of the night with a behind-the-back pass that got Jeff Taylor an easy bucket at the rim.

Al Jefferson, C 34 MIN | 4-10 FG | 2-2 FT | 11 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 1 TO | 10 PTS | -13

Not a great night overall, and there were a few moments were Jefferson got caught ballwatching. With less defensive muscle on the wings, Jefferson’s weakness on that end become a little more glaring.

Kemba Walker, PG 36 MIN | 4-18 FG | 2-2 FT | 2 REB | 4 AST | 3 STL | 4 BLK | 5 TO | 10 PTS | -11

Nothing was falling, and Walker didn’t help himself by settling for jumpers. He went 3-of-5 in the paint and 1-of-13 everywhere else.

Gerald Henderson, SG 30 MIN | 3-14 FG | 5-5 FT | 4 REB | 3 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 0 TO | 12 PTS | -14

Slightly better than Walker because of his free throws, but overall a pretty bad night on both ends.

Jeff Taylor, SG 31 MIN | 3-8 FG | 1-2 FT | 1 REB | 2 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 8 PTS | +5

Taylor took advantage of a few easy looks and knocked down a trey, but was otherwise quiet.

Jeff Adrien, PF 14 MIN | 1-1 FG | 2-2 FT | 2 REB | 0 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 4 PTS | +4

Adrien doing what he does, though his usual energy was muffled by the funk the whole team was in.

Cody Zeller, C 15 MIN | 5-7 FG | 0-0 FT | 6 REB | 2 AST | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 0 TO | 10 PTS | -6

A bright spot! This was Zeller’s best game of the year, as he rebounded, scored efficiently and hustled on defense. He seems to be realizing that better things happen when he plays inside.

Ramon Sessions, PG 22 MIN | 3-11 FG | 3-3 FT | 4 REB | 3 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 9 PTS | +1

Sessions’ inefficient shooting has to be balanced by his trips to the line, and he couldn’t generate many tonight.

Ben Gordon, SG 25 MIN | 3-8 FG | 2-2 FT | 6 REB | 5 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 9 PTS | -8

Gordon getting a season-high in minutes is an indication of how horribly wrong tonight went. He played well, though, and Clifford wisely let him play out most of the fourth quarter. Not the most efficient shooting night, but the assists and rebounds were impressive.

Two Things We Saw

  1. Charlotte really missed Biyombo and MKG’s rebounding, defense and energy tonight. Orlando won the rebound battle, 52-41, neutralizing one of the team’s biggest strengths.
  2. This was just a flat, sad game to watch. There was bound to be a comedown after Monday’s win against the Warriors, but I didn’t think it would be this bad.
