Ben Gordon

The Bobcats acquired Ben Gordon in exchange for Corey Maggette – and they also have a future first rounder coming from Detroit for taking on the extra year of Ben’s contract compared to Corey’s. And I am all for it – the Bobcats have to pay someone this year and next year as they continue to build through the draft, and adding another draft pick is adding another potential building block to the team.

ESPN NBA Player Ranking:

Stats:

Ben Gordon shot 42.9% from deep last year but managed just 24.5 points for the 26.5 possessions he would use out of 100 team possessions. Compare that to Gerald Henderson who managed 23.3 from 25.3 while shooting less than 24% from long range. A variety of styles.

Perspectives from around the web:

If you simply look at it on the basis of what it gives a team on-the-margin, the Gordon acquisition is one of the few this summer that makes an active, tangible change to how a team operates. With Gordon on the court, the Bobcats will finally have a shooter you can’t leave unguarded. The 2012 Bobcats had absolutely none of that.
