Stats by Team:Inspired by the post
One of the 3 Kinds of Lies, here is an opportunity to put the equation to the test. Select the team and player who is getting replaced and then select the team and player you want to replace him with. At the bottom of the page, the first team's efficiencies and pythagorean record will be displayed with the replacement player.
The tool accounts for player usage by predicting how to re-distribute possessions following a swap - if a player is a ball-hog, he may take them all for himself. If it is Ben Wallace coming in, some additional scoring burder is going to fall on his teammates - their usage goes up. And that is the other thing the tool tries to predict - how will efficiencies shift as usage shifts? If a player or team is expected to shoulder a heavier/lighter burder following a swap, their respective efficiencies will be adjusted accordingly.
Last note: The final table is put together by using the team's efficiencies with the replaced player off the court: This is done assuming that bench performance will not change dramatically. The team efficiencies shown represent those calculated following the swap along with those bench numbers to arrive at a number representing overall team performance following the switch.
